Overview
Lawrence Fire Department serves the town of Lawrence in De Pere, Wisconsin, covering 16.1 square miles with two stations and 30 firefighters. As call volume increased, the department sought technology to streamline operations, support personnel of all experience levels, and help attract and retain future firefighters.
Challenge
After completing hose testing, the department prepared to place the lines on its new SAM engine ahead of Hale training scheduled for the following day. Just six hours later, the department received its first fire call, requiring immediate use of a system that had only recently been deployed. The response included two firefighters on the apparatus and two additional personnel on scene.
Solution
A firefighter familiar with the system deployed the speedlay, activated the SAM Smart Nozzle, and charged the line with two button presses; completing deployment before the driver exited the cab. The crew knocked down the fire within minutes, demonstrating how the system enabled fast, confident execution with a limited crew.
The SAM Smart Nozzle has been a phenomenal addition along with the SAM System; it’s been worth every penny. Our guys can put water on the fire fast with just two buttons. It’s incredible.
