There’s a reason we’ve been around for 100 years. You've trusted our expertise not only as part of the Akron Brass team, but also as experienced fire fighters.  We are part of the crew.

Assistant Chief, Cardington Volunteer Fire Department - Cardington, Ohio
Years of Service: 32

Technical Support Manager, Akron Brass
Years of Service: 18

Fire Department History
I am beginning my 33rd year at Cardington Volunteer Fire Dept. I joined in 1980, serving until 1985 until I moved to California. I returned to Ohio in 1991 and rejoined the department.
  Akron Brass History
I have worked for Akron Brass for 18 years. I started out as a District Sales Representative covering OH, MI, IN, KY, WV and Western PA. I was in Industrial Sales briefly as well. In 2006, I moved into Product Management for the monitor product line. Then, I became the acting Product Manager for the valves and nozzles as well. In 2016, I moved to Technical Support Manager.

Most Rewarding Part of the Job
The most rewarding part of my job would have to be the brotherhood and the friendships that are made throughout the years.

Most Rewarding Part of the Job
I’ve traveled extensively both domestically and internationally. I’ve met many different people and it’s always great to provide them solutions for their applications or problems. The most rewarding part of my job is when someone trusts and values your experience and calls you first when they have questions about aspects of products or tactics.

Fire House Responsibilities
My primary responsibility is to maintain and submit incident reports to the State Fire Marshal’s office and take care of radio related equipment.

Fire Scene Responsibilities
In a volunteer dept., you never know what you might be doing until you get to the scene. On paper, I take care of supervising at incident scenes with the chief, but sometimes you can end up doing any other job that the incident requires.

What I Look Forward to as Part of the Crew
Working with like-minded people that understand the importance of our industry and service. Being the “Akron Guy” gets me a fair amount of questions and teasing when it comes to department related stuff, but I usually give as good as I get! Working at Akron Brass is like being on the fire department. It’s a lot of comradery and all kidding aside, everyone knows how important our jobs are. I truly enjoy being a resource for my department and for our customers.

Favorite Job at the Firehouse or Scene
At the firehouse, my favorite job is messing with the new guys, of course! On a scene, my favorite job is pump operator or water supply.

Fire Scene Challenges
At the scene, communications between crews is almost always an issue. There can be many things happening at the same time and lots of information flying around.

  Specialty / Expertise
Because I have an electronics engineering background and we have many electronic monitor products, I would have to say that monitors are at the top of the list of my expertise. I answer many questions about fire hydraulics on any given day as well, so I get a lot of practice in that area.
