Butterfly Valve Actuators

Butterfly valves for fire protection start, stop or throttle the flow of water through the rotation of an internal disc. The disc’s rotation is typically controlled by a handwheel, but Akron Brass offers additional models.

There are four types of Actuators available for the Akron Brass Butterfly Valve:

  1. Handwheel Gear Operator
  2. Pneumatic Operator
  3. Offset Handle
  4. Electric Actuator & Control

Valves equipped with the Handwheel Gear Operator are closed by turning the handwheel clockwise and opened by turning the handwheel counter-clockwise. Handwheel gear operator valves should not be opened or closed any faster than 3 seconds.

Valves equipped with a Pneumatic Operator have a valve wafer in a fully open or fully closed position and require operating air pressure of 60 to 120 psi. The actuator has two air flow control valves to maintain the opening and closing speed of the valve at greater than three seconds.

Valves equipped with an Offset Handle are opened and closed by gripping the operating handle and squeezing to disengage the latch from the throttling plate.

Valves equipped with an Electric Actuator require pairing with an Akron Brass valve controller and allow push-button control of the valve with a visual indicator of the valve position.
